Scouting Report

Hitting

Tyler Henkel is equipped with a toolbox of skills. He’s a quick twitch athlete who makes hard contact with his plus-plus raw power. Henkel has an Impressive stroke with a sligh tarc. His swing can become very elongated at times when he struggles to recognize the spin and becomes unbalanced and the arc becomes a giant uppercut. Henkel ability to hit home runs is there, he generates excellent bat speed, thanks to the amount of torque he creates between his torsos and hips. His explosive line drive stroke – geared towards gap-to-gap extra base hits will match his raw strength levels. In addition, Henkel keeps his swing short, which will help in keeping his contact rate high. With projected cleanup in swing consistency; Henkel should reach the upper levels quickly; complimentary player on a contending team.

Base-Running & Defense

A polished base runner with above plus speed and even better base running instincts, Henkel is a solid runner who knows how to pick his spots to run. He shows good judgment in taking the extra base and is likely to get bolder when he learns the opponents outfielders. Defensively, Tyler Henkel is a plus defense at first base; overall footwork is still developing but shows skills around the bag with good flexibility; soft hands when receiving throws and fielding ground balls; lateral actions are quick-twitch relative to other first basemen, leading to impressive range; instills confidence in his infielders to make the necessary throws. Henkel has an excellent arm strength; nearly irrelevant as a first basemen, but he can make the throws if needed.
