Scouting Report
Hitting
Tim O’Connor generally is very patient, but he will swing at a first-ball flat pitch if it’s left over the inner half. He has as many personality ticks as teammate Steve Guarini when he approaches the plate, but is quiet once he’s set in the batter’s box. O’Connor is somewhat susceptible to pitches on the outer half, usually down and away, but he will make contact if it’s in the strike zone. This year, he concentrated on pulling the ball more, hammering pitches up and in especially. His power comes from his strong, quick wrists, so even on bad swings O’Connor can hit the ball for extra bases. His contact rate went down some, but he can move a runner over when needed.
Base-Running & Defense
Although not a particularly speedy runner, Tim O’Connor is very good at taking as many bases as the defense will allow and is very aggressive in breaking up double plays. He’s a versatile right fielder who gets good jumps, takes smart routes and possesses a strong, accurate arm with surprisingly soft hands. At right center, his range is above average.
