2006 S e a s o n

This should have been their year, and they screwed it up. And for those clamouring for easy answers, canning the coach or the GM, spend more money, or adding a player or two would offer no sure-fire panaceas. Getting over the hump is trickier than just collecting sufficient talent.

One of the best places for the Rebel Club to start rebuilding trust is through their off-season shopping this winter. Though team scouting director Jack Glasscock — whose obfuscations about his own job status is no help to matter, though indications are he’ll be staying beyond the expiration of his contract — continually says otherwise, it sure seems clear that the organization had their hands tied financially this last off-season.

Most Valuable Player

In 2000, Chris Minor hit a robust .541 / .575 / .904 with 12 HRs and 71 RBIs on the way to winning his second — and probably his last — Most Valuable Player Award. Offensively, I think that things are pretty clear. Defensively, Minor was no slouch either. He won the Gold Glove in 2006 and in 2001. The average fielding percentage for a middle infielder in the Lake County in 2006 was .892, Chris Minor had a .895 fielding percentage. To add insult to injury, Minor also led his squad in doubles, HRs, RBIs, Runs and base hits. As a matter of fact, Minor also took home the Cy-Young award for pitchers becoming the first person to win both awards in the same season.

Rookie of the Year

It was a season to remember for Dago Aguilar – and he’s now he’s got the ultimate hardware to show for it. Aguilar finished the year with a .442 batting average, 1.027 OPS and 12 RBI while keeping his Rebel Club in the playoff race at the end of the season. Even as a rookie, he was one of the best on-base producers in softball at any age while putting himself squarely in the Gold Glove conversation.

Dago Aguilar made his team debut and collected his first base hit on Tuesday May 16th. 2006 against Bally Muck at Belvidere South going ( 3 for 4, 3 Runs ). Collected his first triple on Tuesday May 23rd, 2006 vs. A.V.P. Softball, Gm. 1 at. Belvidere South.

This is a 2006 authentic softball card of the Rebels Gold Glover’s leftfielder Nestor Toro and first basemen Ralph Lozano. There is a certificate of authenticity from the CEO of Softball Trading Cards on the back of the card. Nestor Toro also receives the Sporting News All Star Award and the Athlete of the Year Award winner.
