Scouting Report

Hitting

When Saul Molina is able to remain healthy for a reasonable stretch of time, he displays good bat speed and the ability hit any stuff. He can spray extra-base hits to all fields. He also demonstrates his long-standing ability to hit slow breaking balls. However, those effective stretches are few and far between. Thought there are times, Molina seems to lack the endurance to remain in a groove for extended periods, trying to compensate with a bigger swing or looping his swing to generate more power. He also appears to be anxious at the plate, often biting at the first strike he sees rather than working deep counts as he did when he was a perennial .600 hitter.

Base-Running & Defense

Though Saul Molina natural speed isn’t spectacular; he makes the most of it in every way, Molina will take an extra base on any hit ball if the outfielder isn’t vigilant. He’ll break up a double play or run over a catcher blocking the plate like a fullback taking out a safety. As an outfielder, Saul Molina positions him self well in the outfield and reads the ball off the bat better than most, but his average foot speed was exposed on grounders and liners that found deep alleys. The occasional brain cramps in the field are part of the equation with Molina, and Waukeganians lovingly refer to the mishaps as ‘Molina moments’. Molina arm is above average and quite accurate.
