Scouting Report

Hitting

On pure ability alone, Ryan Vanderwarker can very well carry any ball club on his own. That’s particularly true of his bat. He’s got a great swing from the left side of the plate and can really hit. He should hit for above any average with above – average power. Think of a slightly better version of Rick Garza, hitter who could hit .650 with 30+ homers annually. There may be some holes to his swing as he doesn’t get cheated at the plate and, thus, there’s some swing and miss to his game. Still, Vanderwarker has the ability to hit the ball hard to all parts of the field. With a very quick bat, he’s got unbelievable power and it could be a plus tool if he can make more consistent contact.

Base-Running & Defense

One would think of Ryan Vanderwarker being a base-cloggier who will struggle to go from first to third on any base hits; but there are a few better base runners in softball than the hard-driving Vanderwarker. He combines good decisions with extreme aggressiveness to take extra base on any ball hit in the gaps. It’s unclear where Ryan Vanderwarker eventual defensive home will be. A first basemen by trade, some feel he won’t stay there at the next level as the position is already back-log, though Vanderwarker does have the arm strength, a move to the corner outfield spot seems likely and may make the most sense, as his speed would suit him well.
