Scouting Report
Hitting
Rick Garza’ swing produces the treasured backspin that hitting coaches and physicists cite as essential to maximizing a softball’s travel. Garza hardly ever cuts himself short, his long arms allow for phenomenal extension, specifically on pitches middle-away. His truest power is to left-center, so opponents try to tie him up inside. Garza has tried to shake the short bat speed label by finding easier ways to get to these pitches. With a selective approach, he has shown exceptional hitting skills.
Base-Running & Defense
Rick Garza could steal more extra base hits, but that’s not part of the Club’ modus operandi. When healthy, he is aggressive and quick to take the extra base. Garza’first Gold Glove in 2003 solidified his reputation among softball people as a premier defender. Quick enough to make up for mistakes and fearless at the wall, Garza’ first step is almost always the right one. He has improved his physical fitness marked lysince deciding before the 2005 season to spend some off season time at a Lincolnshire-based fitness facility used by professional athletes.
