Scouting Report

Hitting

Matt Maldonado is the complete package, showing ability to contribute in all phases of the game, including with his intangibles, while showing present polish in addition to tremendous potential of what he could become. With his low-maintenance batting mechanics is always in a good hitting position. Maldonado has a natural feel for hitting as he will use the whole field with his approach to the plate and has a keen idea of the strike zone. Maldonado seems to be generating more backspin as the season goes on with power down the right field line,especially when he squares one up you can hear that special sound off his bat.

Base-Running & Defense

Matt Maldonado is a very intriguing player. He’s faster once he accelerated and his speed plays up due to off-the-charts instincts and awareness. Maldonado always knows the situation and is very aggressive on the base paths and always goes for the extra base. Makes all the plays of a everyday second basemen and more.Can make jaw-dropping plays with his quick-twitch muscles allow for quick bursts of speed in either direction. Maldonado is a loose and athletic infielder who has soft hands, clean footwork and knows when to charge in or stay back on hard grounders. His arm strength is accurate with a little zip that turns DP in one smooth motion; quick feet; can get tied up at times; better range up the middle then to his left side.
