Scouting Report

Hitting

Kyle Schrader has made great strides in his plate discipline last season, improving his on-base numbers from earlier in the season. Schrader has pull-side power; line-drive and over-the-fence power present both project. His offensive value tied to power realization, though Schrader does have a good idea as to the strike zone, he has a tendency to get in front center in his swing, limiting his ability to adjust. Aforementioned weaknesses will be exploited as he climbs the ladder. Limited barrel control and pull-heavy approach will be exposed by upper-level pitching. Schrader has thesome stiffness during extension.

Base-Running & Defense

Average runner down the line, Kyle Schrader can take some time to get out of the box; short strides; but won’t clog the bases; uses good judgment but isn’t a threat to take an extra base or go first to third. Still learning when to go for it; speed can play to the gaps in OF but reads are raw enough that it doesn’t play much of a factor. Schrader is considered to be a streaky defender, average at present; projects to improve. As a Pitcher, Schrader struggle to read the ball off the bat with slow reactions; stiff actions; robotic; with limited range. As a Catcher, his footwork isn’t an issue. Can hold his own behind the dish and he does show the ability to bounce out in front of home plate and set himself for a throw.
