Hitting
Scouts rave about Kevin Matesi bat control and how he can essentially do what he wants with any pitch. Matesi possesses an extreme quick bat to witch he uses to his advantage. A good run producer, Matesi has been showing more consistent patience at the plate as his extra base hits comes from his strong, quick wrists. Matesi has been showing more extra power on hammering pitches through the infield, especially when moving runners over when needed. Matesi can bloop a base hit by flicking the bat through the strike zone with ease or he’ll drive the ball into any gap just as easy and he continues to look comfortable at the plate.
Base-Running & Defense
With great speed and even better base running instincts, Kevin Matesi is a solid base runner that knows how to pick his spots. He shows great judgment in taking those extra bases as he studies the opponents outfielders well and has such explosion when he runs that the relay throw rarely has a chance. No one will deny that Matesi is a tremendous athlete with sure hands, he covers plenty of ground with his speed and his plus-plus accurate arm unquestionably plays well. Matesi leads the squad in fielding percentage; his assists are misleading because few teams will risk running on his quick-release pinpoint accuracy throws. He routinely makes plays no one else even attempts.
