Scouting Report

Hitting

Jonny Yarnall has a neutral set up, some pre-swing hand movement but gets into batting position consistently. His pronounced leg kick and bat speed can get rotational at times but he’s at his best when he goes to right center, which he typically does. Jonny’s patient approach and strong understanding of strike zone will battle with two strikes, goes the other way with his quick wrists and he’s comfortable with taking a base-on-balls. Jonny has sneaky raw pop, which comes from natural lift and bat speed. A line-drive hitter to all fields he does not produce fly ball trajectory. His lack of power is lagging a bit due to limited experience, but no concerns about its development, speed to create extra bases.

Base-Running & Defense

Jonny Yarnall is a natural runner who has consistent plus times to first and will show occasional plus-plus speed around the bases, top end he can fly. He also does an excellent job of reading fielders, enabling him to score on miss played opportunities from the opponents. Jonny has a solid arm that enables him to make the hard throws on a line to 2B and cut-off man. His ball fades and dies mildly on throws to home but is still able to make them with enough strength. Jonny natural position is in LC; displays terrific instincts and makes great routes, he understands when to go full-force towards a ball or branch off and take the route easier to cut the ball off. Jonny plus range and second gear in speed allows him to catch up with harder hit balls; will stick in LC.
