Scouting Report

Hitting

When Jerry Van Dyke is able to remain healthy for a reasonable stretch of time, he still displays good bat speed and the ability hit hard stuff. He can spray extra-base hits to all fields. Van Dyke also demonstrates his long-standing ability to hit deep pitch balls. However, those effective stretches are few and far between. Van Dyke seems to lack the endurance to remain in a groove for extended periods, trying to compensate with a bigger swing or looping his swing to generate more power.

Base-Running & Defense

Though an average runner but intelligent, Jerry Van Dyke has a tick above, average speed. He’s no base stealer but runs hard at all times. Van Dyke will make good judgment on the base paths and reads the ball well when trying to take an extra base. He’s much better than expected and will eventually play as average or above. Van Dyke has good lower-half actions; bends well; good first step; lacks crazy range; very good at coming in on grounders. His hands are solid but he tends to let the ball play him. Will improve through repetition.
