Scouting Report
Hitting
With his inside-out swing, Wilson prefers to guide the ball to the opposite field and use his speed to get extra bases on balls that find the seams of the outfield defense. He’s a fairly disciplined hitter, rarely offering at balls out of the zone, and he rarely swings and misses. More than a third of his strike outs come on called strikes, well above the upper average. He looks outside and makes solid contact on just about anything on the outer half. Not surprisingly, flat-pitches inside give him the most trouble. He is fairly helpless against a shift-outfield, making him more of a platoon player than a regular. He’ll draw some walks and is a viable option as a clean-up hitter.
Base-Running & Defense
Jeff Wilson has slightly average speed; he is a base-clogger who struggles to go from first to third on most singles. Wilson’ defense is about average. He doesn’t have much range and doesn’t charge balls in front of him particularly well, but he’s sure handed and comfortable playing either side of the mound
