Scouting Report
Hitting
Jason Palmer is a positive influence both on the field and in the clubhouse who continues to emerge as one of the most underrated hitters in the game. Palmer will collect most of his base hits on flat pitch down in the strike zone and will drive one into the alley with plenty of extra-base hit power. At times Palmer can demonstrate an undisciplined approach at the plate and often will get himself out by chasing high pitches that he has difficulty lying off. He has been showing more consistent patience at the plate and has been learning to make those adjustments to get out of those funks. He is at his best when he trusts his swing to line the ball through the infielders.
Base-Running & Defense
When healthy, Jason Palmer combines good decisions with extreme aggressive base running who rarely runs into outs. A speedy runner who should ignite the offense, he’s not yet been able to consistently basemen in softball. With his build, he won’t ever impress anyone as graceful, but he makes all the plays. . . and then some. He’s one of the best at handling throws in the dirt and corralling popups, and his throwing arm is so good that he serves as a cutoff man on certain plays.
