Scouting Report
Hitting
Lots of strength in the upper body, Jake Economos uses his lower body well through his swing. Economos timing is good between components of the swing to allow him to max out his strength and bat speed and generate game power. Economos over-the-fence power is to his pull side;likes to lift and drive it out of the park. Overall, one will walk away extremely impressed with Jake Economos potential and his excellent hand-eye coordination; strong bat-to-ball skills; loose bat; quick hands. That said;he’s still working to become a more patient, and a more disciplined hitter at the plate. His contact rate actually isn’t too much of a concern, but he needs to get that walk rate up.
Base-Running & Defense
No one will deny that Jake Economos is a tremendous athlete with strong fundamentals and terrific instincts. He ranks among the game’s smartest players, and his intelligence shows on the bases. He makes great decisions and runs extremely well with having explosive speed. Plays multiple positions; Jake is an extremely powerful outfielder with an cannon like arm. He’s light on his feet, and possesses terrific footwork. Economos is now considered to be the standard by which all other outfielders are measured. His range in both directions at first base is above average hands;stretches well; scoops in the dirt have improved over stretch of looks; at times rushes plays and is over-zealous in selection of what to go after. He is among the best young player currently in the leagues.
