Scouting Report

Hitting

Izzy Solis has a swing viewed by many as unorthodox. He extends his front foot forward on its toes, subsequently shifting his weight forward and twisting his knee as a way to open his hips. As this happens, Izzy lowers his hands with his front arm fully extended. The arm usually gets more flex as the swing gets underway, but when he maintains an extended front arm, he loses some of his power and can be busted inside.

Base-Running & Defense

With average feet and foot speed, Izzy Soils has proven to be very fragile so far in his young career. In 2007, he tore his meniscus in his knee, and during spring training of 2006, Solis battled shoulder. He did return in time to play Fall ball in 2008, but he’s losing precious time to get at bats and develop as a player. Somewhat above average second baseman Solis has decent if not soft hands, he turns the double play very well. His above-average arm is solid enough and rarely makes mental errors.
