Hitting

Ultra-aggressive, Eric Matthews consistently jumps on first pitch, has an open stance with high hands. Has good bat to ball skills, Matthews has a natural feel for hitting and will uses the whole field. Matthews has an advanced approach and has keen idea of the strike zone. Has plus bat speed with some lift; often makes loud contact; recognizes spin but at times, may have trouble barreling it. Matthew very defensive approach when he gets in deep counts. With Matthews bat speed and has some lift and with his strong wrists he gets his hips involved early. Has displayed the ability to backspin the ball during big games; solid pop for small size.

Base-Running & Defense

Eric Matthews’s natural speed is consistently above average and he makes the most of it in every way. With great reads and all-out hustle, Matthews is an alert and aggressive base runner who will take an extra base if the opposing defense is sleeping. Eric Matthews’s defense is the strongest part of his game. He remains to be a premier outfielder who positions himself well and reads the ball off the bat better than most. He continues to cover significant amount of outfield making acrobatic catches from gap to gap. Matthews arm is more above average and quite. He is extraordinarily focused and disciplined and most of his throws hit infielders squarely in the chest.
