Hitting
Eddy Solis remains an unfinished product, but he made strides last season as a hitter, especially with his plate discipline. While he has always been a guy that has been more than willing to take a walk, he had a major propensity to strike out. However, he cut that rate down enough that we can consider it true progress especially when you factor in he was playing higher levels of competition. Solis generates plus bat speed and because of that he makes hard contact consistently, resulting in high averages. Solis’ raw power is considered average, but it hasn’t really shown up in game situations.
Base-Running & Defense
Despite his awkward appearance, Eddy Solis is a good base runner who has some success and will take an extra base when opportunities occur. Defensively, Eddy Solis is solid. Other first basemen have modestly better range, but Solis turns virtually every ball he touches into an out. He is extraordinarily focused and disciplined, and almost all of his throws hit other infielders squarely in the chest. Some consider Solis’ Gold Glove material; Solis’ large build belies his decent speed.
