Scouting Report

Hitting

There isn’t a lot of Donny Crunkilton around softball, in general he’s very patient, but will swing at a first-ball flat pitch if it’s left over the plate. He has many personality ticks as a youngster but is quiet once he’s set in the batter’s box. Crunkilton has a graceful, quick swing with a little natural loft that should serve him well once his body fills out a bit more. His contact is solid and strong to all fields; and has been showing more consistent patience at the plate. His weaknesses to date are iffy strike zone judgement (he’s young) and there’s really nothing to worry about. Either way, he’ll be a middle-lineup guy.

Base-Running & Defense

Although not a particularly speedy runner, Donny Crunkilton is very good at taking as many bases as the defense will allow and is very aggressive in breaking up double plays. With above average speed and even better base running instincts, Donny is a solid runner who knows how to pick his spots to run. He shows good judgment in taking those extra bases. A natural infielder who impressed teammates with a superior work ethic, Crunkilton has demonstrated outstanding instincts and a loose, fluid stride. He’s a strong defensive fielder with soft hands; His power potential is especially intriguing for a player who looks well-suited to remain at short.
