Scouting Report

Hitting

With his inside-out swing, Dennis Wuorenma prefers to guide the ball through the infield and at times, to the opposite side of the field. His extra base hits, rare at best, comes from balls that find the seams of the defense. He’s a fairly disciplined hitter, rarely offering at balls out of the zone, and he rarely swings and misses. More than a third of his strikeouts come on called strikes, well above the MLS average. Wuorenma looks outside and makes solid contact on just about anything on the outer half. Not surprisingly, flat-pitches inside give him the most trouble. Wuorenma is fairly helpless against a shift-outfield, making him more of a platoon player than a regular. Dennis will draw some walks and is a viable option as a ninth hitter.

Base-Running & Defense

Dennis Wuorenma employs a five-pitch arsenal that might have the biggest velocity disparity in all of softball. Dennis will go from a 15ft. -arch to a 10ft. -arch. His change-up, curveball and slider fall somewhere in between. Along with the velocity differences come an assortment of arm angles that make him particularly tough on righthanded batters. Wuorenma has slightly below average speed; he is a base-clogger who struggles to go from first to third on most singles. Dennis Wuorenma’ defense is above average. Dennis doesn’t have much range and doesn’t charge balls in front of him particularly well, but he’s sure handed and comfortable playing either side of the mound.
