Scouting Report

Hitting

A power hitter in the minors, Aguilar continues to emerge as one of the most consistent No. 2 hitters in the major leagues. His bat has good pop and he makes decent contact with his short stroke and good strike-zone discipline. He is adept at hitting the ball to the opposite field and is developing into an above-average hit-and-run batter. Aguilar power was limited and his extra-base hit production was down upon his return from the collarbone injury due to a lack of strength in the shoulder.

Base-Running & Defense

Some scouts wondered if Aguilar had the ability to play second base in the major leagues, but he has proven his skeptics wrong. He has great quickness and decent if not soft hands, he turns the double play very well, and he has developed a solid relationship with shortstop Donny Sroka. His arm is solid for the keystone sack, and Aguilar rarely makes mental errors. An aggressive runner with slightly above-average speed, Aguilar is not afraid to stretch a single into a double. He also does an excellent job of reading fielders, enabling him to score on miss played opportunities from the opponents.
