Scouting Report

Hitting

Austin Leggett has a quit bat speed; long swing; long extension and capable of reaching outside portion of plate without stretching or becoming unbalanced. Leggett is notoriously known for his first pitch hacking with his slightly hitch that is not proportionate with his swing. He’s capable of handling almost any type of pitch, equally adept at pulling inside pitches or taking out side pitches up the middle. At times he can struggle to recognize good spin and can be routinely beaten with deep pitches above the zone or short pitches in front of the plate. Fringe raw power is at present, projects to solid-average. Strength is in his lower half, well set for future power output if he can effectively utilize his legs in his swing.

Base-Running & Defense

Though an average runner but intelligent, has a tick above, average speed. Leggett is no base stealer but runs hard at all times. He’s willing to make good judgment on the base paths and he reads the ball very well when trying to take the extra base. Leggett is known for his running and hitting, which makes his defensive contributions underrated. His speed and athleticism allow him to cover vast amounts of turf and put himself in position to attempt plays others would have no chance on. He has a decent arm, and can make it look better with good positioning and a quick release.
