Scouting Report

Hitting

One will walk away extremely impressed with Andrew Formica power potential and the type of contact he makes. The ball tends to jump off his bat. The fly balls seem to carries a little further than most ball players. Though, Formica can get into trouble in the leagues by trying to pull too many outside pitches. When batting with runners in scoring position, Andrew Formica can show little patience at times and has a tendency to drop his hands. That said; Formica is working hard to become a more patient, and a more disciplined hitter at the plate. His contact rate actually isn’t too much of a concern, but he needs to get that walk rate up. He has excellent hand-eye coordination that will allow him to consistently square up on pitches. Formica is a marvelous hitter whom the organization knows can be one of the league’s best.

Base-Running & Defense

A great athlete with excellent speed, no one will deny that Andrew Formica is a tremendous athlete with strong fundamentals and terrific instincts. A polished base runner, Formica will likely get bolder when he learns the opponents outfielders. He is known for his throwing and hitting, which makes his defensive contributions underrated. Formica is a plus infield defender with a very strong arm. He’s light on his feet, and possesses terrific footwork. He is, however, working on some of the intricacies of back-handling grounders, where he’s still learning how to read the reactions of batted balls. His speed and athleticism allows him to cover vast amounts of turf and puts himself in position to attempt plays. He has an excellent arm, and can make it look better with good positioning and a quick release.
