Scouting Report

Hitting

Riley Dixon a positive influence both on the field and in the clubhouse has plenty of extra-base power, His line-drive stroke has natural loft, and he drives the ball to all fields with above-average punch. Dixon remains a potent combination of contact and power hitting but is at his best when he trusts his swing to take the ball up the middle. Dixon at times can be a patient hitter who reads pitches well and displays good strike zone judgment. Some pitchers recently have had some success throwing the ball in on his hands, but he still is a dangerous hitter with runners on base, equally likely to beat pitchers with a gap shot or a run-scoring single.

Base-Running & Defense

Though an average base runner with loose, fluid stride and incredible instincts, Riley Dixon gets great reads on batted balls that he usually uses when attempting to run from first to third base when circumstances permit. Dixon intelligence comes in play as a runner even more when judging those potential extra base hits when the opponent out fielders are caught napping. Defensively, Riley Dixon is one of the game’s most underrated infielders, who can pick them with the best. Watching him defend second base and turning a 360, zeroing in and gunning a throw across the infield to retire a would be base runner can be nothing short of breath taking. Limberness and athleticism are two qualities that make Riley Dixon a dependable infielder.
