Scouting Report
Hitting
It’s easy to underestimate Evan Berliner offensive impact because of his youth. A patient hitter with a smooth stroke, he waits well on pitches and is strong to right field. He is very selective and makes adjustments remarkably well by reducing his strikeouts and increasing his. Berliner likes the ball out over the plate as he is capable of reaching the fences on a line drive as he’s deadly in the clutch. He has enough power to be a useful run producer and often excessively patient in his first at-bat of a ball game, but can be more aggressive and more effective in subsequent at-bats as the game continues. Berliner extra-base power will grow considerably as he becomes more mature. Between his strength, energy and base running skills, he contributes in a variety of ways.
Base-Running & Defense
An aggressive base runner with surprising-above average speed, Evan Berliner is not afraid to stretch a single into an extra base hit. He also does an excellent job of reading fielders, enabling him to score on miss played opportunities from the opponents. Some scouts wondered if Berliner had the ability to play infield in the major leagues, but he has proven his skeptics wrong. Evan Berliner is the best rookie defensive infielder of the current era, his range is outstanding and nobody makes more spectacular grabs or goes back better on balls. Berliner has great instinct with incredible if not soft hands with excellent range to either side of the infield, and possesses the kind of arm that allows him to throw out a runner even after making a play deep in the hole.
