At the Rebels' Organization annual media kickoff luncheon on Saturday, much of the attention predictably centered around two positions -- Shortstop and Left Fielder. For now, general manager Rick Garza said the Rebels are focusing on "internal candidates for both spots."

Recently signed as a free agent by the Rebels, veteran Jeffery Stein will enter his 20th big-league season with an open mind. The career softball infielder has filled the vacancy as an all-purpose infielder, and will also take on pinch-hitting duties.

WHAT? Men’s Softball catching situation has come a long way since the Rebels overhauled their roster in 2006, and is far more settled as Spring Training approaches. Robert Scheve is established as the starter, and Dale Sizemore will again serve as the backup.

The competitor in Rick Garza wanted to keep playing fall ball, despite a recent shoulder injury. The organization, however, have other ideas. On Tuesday night, the Rebels denied Garza request to resume playing fall League.

Left-hander Steve Guarini hasn't thrown a ball since experiencing discomfort in his upper shoulder in mid-August. He won't be throwing the ball again anytime soon, as the Rebels have shut the 28-year-old down until his neck is completely healed.
