2015  S e a s o n

USA Today recently wrote about the importance of clubhouse chemistry, but this article wasn’t very illuminating on how exactly it is that clubhouse chemistry leads to more wins.

Shortstop Danny Morales and Pitcher Ralph Lozano showing power at their position. But what’s truly remarkable and equally fascinating about these two ball players is that it’s not the story we all envisioned it would be six months ago, because they both have done a great job simply blending in and going about their business. They don’t talk out of turn, let alone commanded the spotlight, which has allowed them to settle in comfortably and allowed us to truly absorb there impacts.

Summer League Standing

Most  Valuable  Player

Sometimes, softball appears to be a game that hinges on chance. Contests between well-matched opponents can come down to a single bounce, deflection, or ricochet off a glove. Matt Boley reemergence has been similarly dependent upon his teammates. He believes that this season’s WHAT? Squad possesses both unique talent and selflessness that has pushed the team to the top of the Lake County Leagues.

The shocking thing about Matt Boley MVP win, which is his first in Lake County, is that it came in what was inarguably his last full season with the squad. Boley this year posted career lows in batting average (.536), on-base percentage (.600), OPS (1.223), extra base hits (13), runs (64) and wins-above replacement (7.9, per Softball-Reference).

Rookie of the Year

In 17 games, he hit 7 home runs – 18 extra bases, scored 33 runs, had 41 RBIs and produced a .697 / .744 / 1.273 slash line, for an impressive 2.017 OPS. Morales was third among all position players in WAR (9.1 by Softball-Reference’s). And without Morales cementing himself as the No. 3 hitter in the lineup by the end of his first half of the season, the WHAT? Softball almost certainly wouldn’t have gone through the playoffs.

Made his team debut on August 28th. 2014 against Green Tavern Club at SportsPark A’ going ( 2 for 5, 2RBI’s / 2Runs ). Collected his first Triple base hit on Thursday June 11th, 2015 vs. Buffalo Wild Softball Squad Gm. 1 at Libertyville Park. First Home Run on Monday August 25th, 2014 vs. Anti Hero Softball Club, Gm. 2 at SportsPark A’.
