2011  S e a s o n

For the two straight seasons, the WHAT? Softball ended their season short of a League Night Title. After concluding the 2011 season with a 1-2 playoff record, the WHAT? Softball finished with a 14-26 league play record.

The WHAT? Softball faced many challenges due to injuries that impacted the team on the field. From Matt Mitchell, Clark Collins, Chuck Breucher to Justin Yonke, the Squad lost many game-changing players who were temporally out of the line-up.

There was too much inconsistency on offense. They lost too many two-run games. After losing eight of their last nine games, they never returned to .500 for the remainder of the season.

Most  Valuable  Player

Ralph Lozano, a superstar and one of the premier power hitting pitchers in Lake County, who on August 25th, 2011, entered into an elite class of players by capturing the award in back-to-back seasons.

Lozano posted league leading numbers in home runs (34), base hits (132), runs scored (96) and runs-batted-in (122). Those stats, combined a .617 batting average and a lofty 1.220 slugging percentage. Winning a Most Valuable Player Award is one of the most momentous and sought-after accomplishments in all of sports. Few athletes can say they have achieved the honor, and even fewer can say they have achieved it in consecutive years.

Rookie of the Year

Jon Pieper entered the 2011 season with questions and uncertainties about if he was going to be the everyday left centerfielder. As the season came-to-a-close the WHAT? Sftbll Club, were happy that the rookie Jon Pieper came through with an outstanding first year campaign. In his first 47 games in 2011, he registered 6 doubles, 3 homers, 40 RBIs, 32 runs, .377 batting average and .554 slugging mark, but he is arguably the best defensive left centerfielder in the game.

Pieper made his team debut and collected his first Home Run on Tuesday May 31st. 2011 against CTL Global Squad at SportsPark, B’ going ( 2 for 4, with 2 Runs ).
