Scouting Report

Hitting

High expectations may have played a role in Scott Wilson’ struggles. Normally a very patient hitter with a discerning eye at the plate, his strikeout and walk numbers both trended in the wrong direction in the past few season’s, and his groundball rate increased as well. From his open stance, he’ll stride toward the pitch and try to pull anything on the inner half, or go to the opposite field with anything outside. In previous years, Wilson base hits went to all fields, but lately they go almost exclusively too left.

Base-Running & Defense

There are few better baserunners in softball than the hard-driving Scott Wilson. He combines good decisions with extreme aggressiveness to take extra base hits, a threat that cannot be ignored. Wilson positions himself well in the outfield and reads the ball off the bat better than most, but his average foot speed was exposed on grounders and liners that found deep alleys. Wilson’ arm is above average and quite accurate.
