Scouting Report

Hitting

Ricardo Mitchell is a strong, patient hitter who has a good mix of power and on-base skills. He likes to look over the first pitch and isn’t afraid to work deep counts. The one major weakness in his game is his inability to hit deep throwing lefthanders with authority. He made marginal improvement in that area in 2003, but he still led the team in strike outs. Mitchell played in every game and was the club’s leading runs producer.

Base-Running & Defense

Playing a full season for the first time in years, Ricardo Mitchell had his breakthrough power campaign that was long awaited. Though Mitchell’s natural speed isn’t spectacular; he makes the most of it in every way. With good reads and all-out hustle, he covers Waukegan’s cavernous pitching mounds very well and is capable of playing third base when asked.
