Scouting Report

Hitting

David Wenegoni remains a potent base hitter with the combination of contact and clutch hitting. He can also be a dangerous hitter with runners in scoring position, equally likely to beat pitchers with a liner into left center gap or a base hit up the middle. His line-drive stroke has natural loft, and can sometimes fool outfielders, as they tend to play him more up the middle. Wenegoni likes to jump on the first pitch in the strike zone, but is at his best when he works the count into his favor. Though sometimes he gets long with his swing and will go through stretches when he is vulnerable to pop-outs. Streakiness seems to be an unavoidable part of his game.

Base-Running & Defense

An aggressive base runner, Wenegoni plus, plus speed wreaks havoc on the base paths when taking those extra bases. With outstanding judgment he knows when to pick his spots to run, though he’s still a little raw and needs to learn the nuances of base running.Wenegoni is extraordinarily focused and disciplined, and almost all of his throws hit infielders squarely in the chest. Better in recent looks; Wenegoni hands are softer; clean actions and makes the routine play. His range is dependent on first step, though he charges in with good athleticism.
