Scouting Report

Hitting

Ryan Borre remains one of the most prolific softball hitters in the game, hitting well over .580 during his rookie season. He has strong, quick hands that allow him to drive the ball. A perfectionist regarding his swing, Borre is prone to late slumps when his mechanics go slightly awry. He went through a stretch during his first summer when he bent his back too much, resulting in a longer swing. Ryan Borre ranks among the league leaders in numerous offensive rookie categories, and yet he’s rarely mentioned when the topic is centered on the game’s premier performers.

Base-Running & Defense

Ryan Borre is an average baserunner going from home to first; poor speed; no second gear; not highly athletic; speed is a detriment in all phases of the game. But he will take advantage of advancement opportunities without running into outs. Defensively, Ryan Borre is solid. Other first basemen’s have modestly better range, but Borre turns virtually every ball he touches into an out. He is extraordinarily focused and disciplined, and almost all of his throws hit other infielders squarely in the chest. Excellent arm strength; nearly irrelevant as a first basemen.
