Scouting Report

Hitting

Dave Collins has plenty of power but is at his best when he trusts his swing to take the ball to the right side or up the middle. He sometimes gets long with his swing and will go through stretches when he is vulnerable to popups, but he has learned to make adjustments to get out of those funks. Collins likes to jump on the first pitch in the strike zone; he hit .500 when he put the first pitch into play after joining the Squad. He has not shown much ability to hit with two strikes.

Base-Running & Defense

Dave Collins large build belies his decent speed. Despite his awkward appearance, he’s a good baserunner who has some success legging out an infield hit and will take an extra base when opportunities occur. Although he’s not Gold Glove material, he continues to make strides as a fielder. Last year he improved his throwing accuracy and continued to display adequate range afield.
