Scouting Report

Hitting

Mike Peavey can go into any spring training penciled as the No.1 hitter on any Line-up card. Peavey likes to pull pitches that are middle and in, and will stride through an outside pitch and drive it up the middle. Peavey at times can develop an uppercut swing that too often leads to pop-ups instead of keeping the ball on the ground and using his speed. Peavey has good power when saying within the strike-zone, and usually puts together a good at-bat in clutch situations.

Base-Running & Defense

Mike Peavey has above average speed, but he makes good decisions allowing him to take extra bases on hit balls. Although Peavey is not gold glove material yet; he continues to make strides as an infielder. Last season he improved his throwing accuracy and continued to display adequate range afield. As a shortstop Peavey plays a deep infield and ranges well laterally and toward the middle.
