Scouting Report

Hitting

Although persistent ankle problems have sapped his power by reducing his swing and preventing him from getting full extension, Rob Scheve remains a potent combination of contact and power hitting. His powerful line-drive stroke has natural loft, and he drives the ball to all fields with above-average punch. Scheve at times can be a patient hitter who reads pitches well and displays superior strike zone judgment. Some Pitchers, recently have had some success throwing the ball in on his hands, but he still is a dangerous hitter with runners on base, equally likely to beat pitchers with a longball or a run-scoring single.

Base-Running & Defense

An aggressively smart baserunner, Rob Scheve takes the extra base and is effective as a baserunner when scoring, because he reads fielders’ moves so well. He has a poor defensive reputation, but he has improved around the bag at first. Scheve has decent range and mobility, but still has a great deal of trouble adjusting to errant throws.
