Hitting

Russell Shoumake generally is a very patient hitter, but he will swing at the first-short pitch if it’s left over the middle outside half the plate. He has as many personality ticks as he approaches the plate, but is quiet once he’s set in the batter’s box. Shoumake is somewhat susceptible to pitches on the inter half, usually down or up, but he will make contact if it’s in the strike zone. Shoumake concentrated on going up the middle to right field, hammering pitches up and out especially. His power comes from his quick wrists, so even on bad swings Shoumake can drive the ball for extra bases.

Base-Running & Defense

An aggressive base runner with surprising above average speed, Russell Shoumake is not afraid to stretch a single into an extra base hit. Shoumake also does an excellent job of reading fielders, enabling him to score on miss played opportunities from the opponents. Although he is not gold glove material yet; Shoumake continues to make strides in rightcenter field. He’s a versatile outfielder who gets great reads on fly balls and has good laterally movement to cut-off the liners hat potentially can find deep alleys in the gaps. Russell Shoumake arm is above average and butt accurate and his throwing accuracy continues to display adequate range afield.
