Scouting Report
Hitting
Andrew Stein success at producing runs is limited by his environment. He could produce some astounding offensive totals in a potent lineup. Already physically mature, softball scouts wonder how much more room he has to grow. Stein has respectable power and is especially adept at staying inside the ball and diving it down the line, particularly on inside pitches. He’s much more of a line-drive hitter than a home run hitter, and many of his hits come on hard liners through the infield or off the fence. His bat control enables him to protect the plate well with two strikes. He’s also an extremely bright and coachable player.
Base-Running & Defense
Stein is a solid base runner that knows how to pick his spots to run when judging those potential extra base hits. As his intelligence helps him on the bases, it will also helps him be a plus defender on the field. A strong defensive fielder with soft hands and a quick-release with pinpoint accurate throws, Stein assists are misleading because of few teams unwilling to test Andrew skills. Stein turns virtually every ball he touches into an out. He is extraordinarily focused and disciplined, and almost all of his throws hit other infielders squarely in the chest. And, of course, he doses this as quietly and unobtrusively as possible.
