Scouting Report

Hitting

Scouts rave about Jon Van Dyke’s bat control and how he can essentially do what he wants with any pitch. He walks more and struck out less-a sign that he’s still getting better. Jon Van Dyke flicks the bat through the strike zone with ease, and he’ll drive a ball the other way just as easy as pulling it. Some of his hits last season were ones that never left the infield because he gets out of the box so quickly. He can drive the ball with ease as much as he can bloop one in, Van Dyke continues on to look comfortable at the plate.

Base-Running & Defense

Jon Van Dyke remains a premier center fielder. He positions himself well in the outfield and reads the ball off the bat better than most, and continues to make fewer errors then most of his peers, by covering significant ground from gap to gap. His arm is above average and quite accurate. Jon Van Dyke’ will take an extra base if the cut-off-man isn’t vigilant. His foot speed should not be underrated as a tremendous weapon. He’ll break up a double play or run over a catcher blocking the plate like a fullback taking out a safety.
